Valentines Gift for the Hubby '12

This year for the husband I bought him a recliner.

Well to help it be more of a Valentines Gift I thought of making it a pillow.
(pillow case actually)

Our colors throughout the house are earth tones with a touch of purple thrown in for me (my "make me smile" color)

I took This Quilted Pillow and tweaked the measurements to fit a standard pillow.

I elongated the sides by doubling them as I went along.
I sandwiched the top and stitched it down.
The back is one solid piece.

Not only am I not good math to figure out the measurements first- I was on a new to me machine, with 2 new feet- I received the 1/4 in foot and the walking foot this weekend soooooo here I was trying them all out on a gift.

Luckily for me the hubby is out of town until the 22nd so I had a few extra days to squeeze the pillow in :)

8-365

One of my goals this year-
learn more about quilting

First Quilt Block

I am so happy with how it turned out.
I lost 1/2 an inch some where but I added the small trim to the edge to make up for it. 12x12

I was quit impressed with how quick it came together

Time for bed yet?

So I can wake up!
Woot! School starts tomorrow!
This was a long Winter Holiday for sure.
Mr was home on half days and had 2 4 days in a row. The monkeys were off from the 16th thru today. C planned out his work & play pretty well, J was starting to hint on cabin fever, L was honest and admitted missing school about 4 days ago. A is .... well .... locked up :( that boy!
We picked up a new to us Explorer-here's to hoping it helps the Mr's hip abit.
I decorated the outside with tons of white lights-just for them to keep blowing out every few hours. The tree was mine this year- I worked it up in Purples & Golds, vintage wooden ornaments and red bows. Just lovely I tell you. The house was also decorated in Wooden Objects only.
I'll get up a few pics shortly.
Christmas was a hit, we toned it down compaired to what we've done in the past. The kids got to ask "Santa" for one big thing, and ask "us" for a couple little items.
We stuck to it well.
Heres a toast (with my glass of Pinot) to a great Year ahead for us all and GoodNight.

1-365

The Three Kings came a few days early this year ;)
Of course the 2nd is not the 6th, well after talking it over, we agreed it was easier to have Epiphany tomorrow since school is still out and the Mr is home.
Yes our Kings fill our Stockings.

4th of July '11

We celebrated a day early due to the man having to work this morning,

here I'll include a few pictures of us out at Alder Lake, WA.

It's such a great State Park, very nice, clean, complete with everything, volleyball, parks, tables and bbqs all along the lakefront, swimming zone, boat docks, tons of tent and RV spots that also had lots of room, table and a prebuilt fire pits.

We were only there for the day but want to definitely go back for a weekend trip.

Mister Jullian Miguel was born
I can not believe 6 yrs has past by already.
Now in Kindergarten and learning to read & write,
playing basketball, baseball & soccer like a champ.
How unique & great you are.
You do have your good & bad moments but being the 3rd and middle child has its ups & downs.
You are a great great boy, the bestest Jullian in the world.
You have a shinning smile & give the greatest hugs.
Just look at how you've grown.

Recycle all that glass!

A fun universal Holiday/Birthday/Celebration project.

Here I'm showing it themed for Halloween & J's 6th Birthday to decorate the tables & hand out when everyone leaves.
I can see this for Thanksgiving and giving one to each who attends dinner or even for Christmas, you can hand one out to all at the office.

I got the inspiration from here.

This could be a pretty quick project but C & I worked on these 1/2 the day yesterday everything was all spread out over the dinning room table from noon to midnight.

So lets start!

Prep & supplies needed:

Dig through your glass recycling container

After picking through and getting the ones you want, remember to check for chips & cracks
fill your tub or sink and soak the bottles in warm water.

Rub off all the labels, don't worry about the sticky glue stuff, I'll show you a tip later

(clean out the tub after it drains :)

Let glass dry

Get out all your supplies, here we have two types of paper, 1 long and skinny, 1 short and squared. We have coordinating stickers, & ribbon. Glue, tape, tons of scissors, pens/pencils, a tag/label stamp (optional), fabric scraps (at least 4in circle/square), stencils, rubber bands & plastic wrap (if using popcorn or open candy) oh and a hole puncher

Make sure you have a big ole bag of candy, m & m's, treats, small gift bag toys and even crunch n' munch works well

Now the how to:

Select a bottle, a fabric piece and coordinating paper and sticker, use your imagination and have fun.

After the jar is all decorated, fill as you choose, if its a wide mouth you can do gift bag toys & small individual candy, if its a small mouth you can try out m&m's or popcorn.

Here's a picture of everything ready to go, a hanging to/from tag ribbon, 2 fabrics, & a filled jar.

All done!

here's one with crunch n' munch

& one with m&m's

Oh yeah the sticky glue removal tip.
Fingernail polish removal works wonders.
See below, the before & after, I just rubbed the glue off with a clean dry washcloth that had fingernail polish remover on it.

oh yeah, little hands & feet too

Paint hands black-skip the thumb
place first hand down then rotate the paper-place second hand down over lapping the palms

Paint feet white-place and step down

let dry, if you choose to have other colors get them ready while waiting

add faces & decorate as you choose
